10 tips for your New Years Party

Written by  Daniel de Wolff

Hosting your own New Years Party this year ? Do you want to make it explosive ? Have a blast ? Have people remember it for years to come as the hip of coolness ? We thought about sharing some of our experience in event design, here is our advise:

1. CREATE DENSITY

Keep people cramped and crowded. You can get three to four people into one square meter. When you do they will bump into each other, they will perceive each others perfumes and pheromones - and good things start to happen. People also feel less ashamed to dance.

2. CONTROL THE CROWD
People will stay where the food and the drinks are. DO NOT place it in the kitchen, otherwise the party will take place there. Put it close to the dance floor ! And lock that kitchen door !

3. THE SPARK
Start slowly and then throw people off balance. Find some kind of entertainment or surprise that ignites your party. Start the party slowly. Let people drink and talk, keep the music low at first and when enough people have arrived kick in that special surprise and use it to launch in the fun. Try a group of animators or dancers, an announcement, a surprise appearance, or some other kind of BANG !

4. TRY A THEME
People love to dress up. A theme party allows you to hide your identity and really let yourself go. When you organize one, make sure that everybody comes dressed up or otherwise stays outside. Find a good costume rental well in advance and coordinate the rental for your guests.

5. CHOOSE YOUR GUESTS CAREFULLY
Some guests don´t like parties. Don´t force them to come. They will kill your party. Invite a few crazy ones. If you don´t know any, get a group of animators. They will know how to light the fuse.

6. SPOIL YOUR GUESTS
Remember, the party is for your guests. Give them your best ! Invest some money ! This is your Public Relations day ! Get enough booze and food, a good light and sound system, a real DJ and some good animation if possible. Nothing kills a party more than a lack of any one of these items.

7. INVITE WELL IN ADVANCE
Book your guests well in advance. Especially on New Years Eve people have a choice. Prepare a solid invitation and quality guest list and then keep track of who attends. Invite twice to three times as many people as you think will come. Stalk the undecided.

8.TAKE PICTURES
Share them with your friends afterwards, but think twice before posting them on Facebook !

9. MISBEHAVE & ENJOY

10. PREPARE FOR THE DAY AFTER
Think of Alka Selzer, guest beds for the casulties and a good cleaning squad.

Enjoy your party ! Happy New Year !
